Why You Should Invest In Home Air Quality

Hi Everyone!

I have decided to do a vlog for this week’s post explaining what an HRV unit is, and why it is important for your home. I have a few notes below the video as a recap and to further clarify what is said, in case I went too fast. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section, or you can submit an inquiry for direct messaging.

Heat Recovery Ventilation Unit Recap

Here are a few points to keep in mind when you purchase this machine:

  • This machine is for air quality. And your furnace is for comfort.

  • When this machine is on, it does the following simultaneously: air ventilation, dehumidification, and temperature control.

    • Air ventilation: Is the exchange of the old stale air within the house with new fresh air from outside.

    • Dehumidification: Is the removal of excess water vapor within the old air by exchanging it with the fresh dry air from outside. Please be aware that too much humidity in your house can lead to issues of condensation, mold, and moldy smells, as a result of imbalanced relative humidity, where I would need to explain in another video down the road.

    • Temperature Control: The air movement from the HRV unit helps the furnace or air conditioner maintain the desired level of heat or cooling to the home.

  • Energy efficiency is huge! You save more on your energy costs with the HRV unit running more often than your furnace and air conditioner.

  • If you are building a new basement or secondary suite, this is a requirement in Alberta. If you are looking to move forward with a basement or secondary suite project, please send your inquiry for more information.

  • For folks building a new home, these will bring down your construction costs, as part of the new energy code. Talk to your builder about the cost difference between having these units installed or not.

Just A Little More To Keep In Mind

If you have this machine in your home, then you should consider running it
every 20 minutes per hour to keep the house fresh, ventilated,
well-balanced humidity, and temperature control. Of course, there are other
settings to consider, ask your builder or HVAC trade for their recommendations.
